one small candle,
than to curse the darkness!

.OUR NETWORK IS MOVEMENT BASED and YOUTH LED.............

ENYA is a network of member and partner organisations, and individuals. It is a movement -- based and lead -- organisation, committed to an inclusive leadership model and practise. This model of decision making has been used by many socially concerned and activist movements, sometimes successfully and at other times not so successfully. We hope that even with the growing developments and the increasing number of members, partners and individuals joining our work; that we will be able to maintain this profile within the network.

Throughout all levels within the organisation and decision making processes we try to ensure the full participation of those who normally are not including in traditional ecumenical movements and organisations.

SUPPORTED BY A COMMITTED TEAM OF PROMINENT
ECUMENICAL and CIVIL SOCIETY ENDORSERS....
ENDORSERS:

We are strongly supported by our ENDORSERS, a very dedicated and committed group of individuals who are prominently respected in the ecumenical movement. Each in their own way has been a visionary bridgebuilder and involved in many crucial developments of the ecumenical movement, civil society and life of the Churches.

They have supported us --- with finding ways to deal with the many difficult realities in Eastern and Central Europe, in designing better accounting and planning/management/evaluation systems, by giving us hope in conflict situations and discovering new paths to peace and reconciliation, by bringing depth and meaning into our seminars as resource persons, by dedicating resources, books, computers and other new technologies to local and national members and partners as well as to the Secretariat, by leading our spiritual retreats and teaching us new interactive bible study methodologies, by hosting young tired pilgrims in their homes and by feeding them for the next part of their journey. They continue to share with yet another new generation --- an exciting yet difficult calling towards ecumenical discipleship.

The CO-COORDINATORS MODELLING ?....
CO-COORDINATORS:

This model of team of coordinators was borrowed from the Ecumenical Forum of European Christian Women, and has served ENYA well. It has enabled a greater diversity of leadership and skills within the team. Eva Mikulecka and Cath Moss helped to establish the organisation in 1995. Eva is a minister in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and served for a four year term as the national church General Secretary. She has been instumental in fundraising and developing of the Lighthouse Project. Cath is currently employed with the Prague diocese of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, as their Social and Diaconial Consultant. Jana Krajcirkova has just recently joined the team of coordinators. She has served seven years as a member of the World Council of Churches Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Central Committee for seven years. Jana is really talented with publications and fundraising.

The previous coordinator Father Radu Branza (RO), was elected in November 1999 and served until 2006. Father Radu is an Orthodox priest. The other previous co-coordinator Dan Apostu (RO) served from 1996-1999, and was working as the Director of the Orthodox Philanthropia of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia. He is now living back in Romania. Both Father Radu and Dan made significant contributions to the networking with other organisations, especially enabling the inclusion and full participation of many new young Orthodox members and organisations.

CO-CHAIRPERSONS:

Giorgio Agladze is Orthodox and comes from Georgia and has just spent a year been studying management and finances in Netherlands and Cambridge Both Giorgio started his two year term in 2007 and Ilona in 2004.

Jana Krajcirkova served as a Co-Chairperson since from 1999 to 2007. During the World Council of Churches Assembly in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1998, Jana served on the Finance Committee and was elected to both the WCC Central Committee and the WCC Executive Committee. We were very grateful that she had the time to work with us as well as all her other commitments!

In 1996, Antoinette Camilleri, a linquistic's professor from Malta, and Sascha Traitler Espirita a Philippino/ Austria living and studying in Switzerland were elected as Co-chairpersons, by the participants at the second seminar of ENYA (Mikulov, CZ). Antoinette served from 1996 - 1997. In November 1999, Sascha (served from 1999 until 2005) was relected along with Anu Ratas. COUNTING THE UNCOUNTABLE....
CO-TREASURERS:

Ira Kuzymchak is a Greek Catholic from Ukraine and works in economics and management. She has been Co-Treasurer since 2004. Jana Klepkova (CZ) did her degree in theology and is currently working in Luxembourg.

ENYA's finances are taken care of by the staff and an external accounting firm Dalesta.

Previous Co-treasurers included Eva Sulima from Poland, (Orthodox and professor in economy) along with Nicholas Lane, (a Quaker and Officer with the Northern Ireland Trading Standards Board)

At first, their job was not too difficult, as ENYA had very few financial and other resources, but since 1998, donor and partner organisations especially the
Diakonisches Werk of the EKD, the Visser 't Hooft Foundation, the Global Ministries of the Uniting Churches in the Netherlands / ICCO / Kerkinactie, Margie Beguin, the World Council of Churches, the European Social Fund and many Churches and individuals have invested considerable funds into the programmes of ENYA and participation of young people from Eastern and Central Europe and the other regions of the world.

COORDINATED BY A COMMITTED TEAM OF MAINLY
YOUNG ADULTS FROM OVER 18 COUNTRIES....
COORDINATING TEAM:

The management and coordination of the programmes, policies, and projects of ENYA, are undertaken by the Coordination Committee. Members are chosen from within their own respective countries by the members and partners in the country. Depending on the strength of the members / partners in a given country and the number of actual members, a country or region can be appoint up to 2 members onto the Coordination Team.

Members are encouraged to maintain some balances within the regional quotas. The Co-coordinators, along with the Chairpersons, overview the process to ensure balances at several levels including geographical, Church / Faith Communities, gender, age, experience, and between the lay/ordained. Eighty percent of the members need to be (and are) below the age of thirty.

The Coordination Committee is currently made up from members from the following Churches - Orthodox (9), Roman Catholic (2), Greek Catholic (1), Lutheran (1), Greek Catholic (1), United Church of Canada (1), Reformed (1), plus there are 2 persons representing Roma organisations. The ecumenical representation in our seminars tends to be similar as the makeup of our Coordinating Committee. We are currently exploring cooperation with young adults from other faith communities and hope that in the near future they also will be able to join in the work with the Coordinating Team.

STAFFED BY THE COORDINATORS, VOLUNTEERS AND INTERNS WHO ONE DAY HOPE FOR A REAL JOB WITH REAL MONEY TO BUY REAL BEER....
STAFF TEAM:

The Co-coordinators and four very talented women make up the staff team of ENYA. Erika and Marketa work in the ENYA Secretaria in Prague, Czech Republic. Zuzana and Gabriela manage the Lighthouse Youth Home. Except for the EU project it has been very hard to raise funds for staffing costs. During the EU Unemployment Project (2006-2007) ENYA had 7 staff involved in the project.
Staff in the Secretariat are on part time contracts and work tirelessly for very low wages. We are indepted to them and all previous staff members / interns / volunteers.

ENYA is indebted to the the work of it's first staff team. Jana Koukalova, Zuzka Kolarova, Hedvika Hortvikova, Zuzka Plevova, Marcela Maskova and Vladimir Mirga, who kept the Secretariat running in their free time usually between the hours of 8:00 pm to well past midnight, often to 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning. When they were not going crazy in the office, they were all studying. Their commitment and that of the various interns who have worked in the office over the past years from Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Ecador, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Poland, etc. have been the example and pillars on which ENYA has been and is being built.

We are very grateful for to all the staff, volunteers and interns for their commitment, hard work and sense of humour!!
