.INTRODUCTION TO THE ENYA DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES:

Diploma Logo 2001
The ENYA ECUMENICAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES are structured to afford participants the maximum opportunity for participation and ecumenical experiential learning through: country tutorial groups, individual self-management and implementation of direct experience working within their chosen field(s) of specialisation, interactive training with other participants, written assignments and case studies, opportunities from international exchanges, experiences, placements and encounters. Central to the Diploma Programme is the development of a deep self-understanding and an applied understanding of the principles and practises of combating discrimination in the areas of race, class, and gender.

The Diploma Programmes are two year ecumenical programmes. During the two years, participants will attend a month long Foundation Course and a minimum of 4 Modules (usually two each year - 7 to 10 days long including travel days), plus other options. The courses are residential and will take place in different countries primarily in Eastern/Central/ Southern Europe. The Diploma Programmes are challenging and intensive courses for those who are interested in developing their skills and qualifications in various fields of church and community service. There is not a recognised system of accreditation (or competency based qualifications) currently being provided for by the church, non-profit organisations or state institutions, in most, if not all, of the Central and Eastern European countries (as well as some other European nations). The Diploma Programmes and Modules have been developed especially to fill this gap. The programmes are of the highest quality and designed specifically to increase the capacity of, and to improve and strengthen the provision of the children’s work, youth services and provisions, Christian Education, social, diaconial and community work, young women’s work. The Diploma Programmes are co-managed with partner Churches, members and partner organisations. There are presently 42 participants from 11 denominations and 17 countries; and it is envisioned and planned for another intake of 18 more participants in 2002.
.STRUCTURE OF THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES:

The Diploma Programmes are competency based and all elements of the course must be completed and assessed. The structure of the Diploma Courses are designed around 7 areas of study/work:

Foundation Courses:

Strategies, management and development: in cross-sectoral work, which will include at least two 2 projects, with an emphasis on professional development

Forms of informal and political education:
which will include at least two case studies: one which ideally would focus on the participants local and regional realities and the other exploring an issue from a global context.

Internship or field placement:

Synthesis and Evaluation Week:
The aim is to provide a body of knowledge and a conceptual framework which will enable participants to look objectively and critically at their practise and learn from their experience.

..PARTICIPANTS:

The Diploma Programme, Foundation Courses and Modules will enable participants to develop their skills in a wide range of children's, youth, women and diaconial related issues, different theoretical approaches and dynamic and participatory methodologies..
