Coordination Team

The Ecumenical Network for Youth Action (ENYA) is an inclusive ecumenical youth movement of Churches / Faith Communities / Civil Society Organisations (NGO's) and their related associations and operates on an international level. The network is membership / partnership driven and includes children, youth and women’s organisations, diaconal projects, Christian Education groups, children's, youth and women’s rights and protection activist networks, Roma youth and organisations, ecumenical youth movements, social movements, justice, peace, reconciliation and environmental groups, NGO’s, lay training academies / centres, and individuals in over 48 countries around the world.

ENYA is working with ecumenical local and international partners, to implement many challenging and forward looking initiatives, programmes, internships, interactive training for transformation projects, campaigns, resource kits and solidarity work.

ENYA increases the opportunities for interactive ecumenical youth encounters inter-regionally, while maintaining our primary focus with those from Central / Eastern / Southern Europe. Thanks for your interest and we hope that you will find something of value to you while surfing our Webbie pages!

YOUNG ROMA WOMEN WORKING TOWARDS SOCIAL JUSTICE AND INCLUSION

The Roma communities and Roma people in Europe suffer massive discrimination. They are denied their rights to housing, employment, healthcare and education, and are often victims of prejudice, hatred, and racist attacks. The Roma in Europe have always faced poverty and discrimination, but since the fall of communism in 1991, the situation for Roma women has worsened. Throughout Europe, no precise and complete official data are available on Roma women. Statistics and data separated by sex are lacking, as are quantitative and qualitative studies on Roma women. The reality is also that especially young Roma women, are hardly ever specifically targeted by local, national of regional policies and even gender-equality policies rarely address their specific needs and problems.

Roma women are among the most marginalised and excluded groups and individuals in Europe. There is an urgent need for measures to combat the extreme levels of multiple discrimination faced by Roma young women (on the grounds of ethnicity, gender and age and in some cases religion and culture) both in society and in their own communities / families.

Overall, Roma women experience greater risks of social exclusion and poverty than the men from their community, especially in accessing employment, education (including adult and informal education), and health services. Roma young women need social, economic and legal support to improve their status and to ensure their access to education and health as preconditions for employment, as well as protection from the multiple discrimination.

The main aim of this one year programme is to work towards overcoming social and economic injustices of young Roma women. There will be two seminars one in Bulgaria and one in Macedonia. There will also be four national /local programmes in Bulgaria, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Serbia.
The seminars and programmes will involve only young Roma women though the impact will be extended throughout the region and Roma communities and organisations.

ENYA - YOUNG ROMA WOMEN'S NETWORK

The ENYA - Young Women's Roma Network, which was established in 2008. It is managed by the Secretariat and the Network Coordinator and Coordination Team, both of the former have been extensively involved in drafted this project proposal. During 2011, we will strive to develop further and strengthen further the Network both in terms of numbers and of number of countries represented.

The Coordination Team met twice in 2011 - in Bulgaria (June) and in Macedonia (September). The agenda included oversight of the programme activities of the Network and this project, futuring for new projects and programmes, monitoring and evaluation of the international seminars and local / national projects.

ENYA invites application forms from people to join us in the network and to work towards just and inclusive society with Roma young women.
